What is cross checking?

Cross-checking is a technique used in hockey to prevent opponents from entering the defensive zone. The player performing the cross-check hits the opposing player with the shaft of their stick, ensuring they cannot continue skating forward. Cross-checks can lead to penalties if not performed properly, including minor or major penalties, game misconducts, or suspensions. However, a properly executed cross-check can be an effective defensive move in hockey, and is often used by defensemen to keep players away from the goal.
